"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster."--Goodfellas

Well, back to work tomorrow.  These past five days have flown by for me!  It was a nice break from work, and I'm happy to get back to our normal daily routine, but I had forgotten how nice it is to be home with my guys.

So, how did I spend my last day free from work?  Feeling like absolute crap and napping on the couch all day.  This all started Thursday night.  I had a little tickle in my throat, so I thought it was no big deal.  Then, I woke up Friday morning with a lot of drainage and a sore throat.  I still didn't think much of it, because it's been a horrible allergy season so far.  Saturday and Sunday I felt a little bit better, and went about those days not really thinking about it.  Monday the tickle came back, and it brought a friend: a lovely cough.  This morning I woke up feeling awful!  I couldn't breathe out of my nose, my throat hurt, I had a cough that was generated from my chest, and my ears were all clogged up.  FUN!  At noon I was feeling a lot worse, so I decided to see if I could get in to see the doctor.  Thankfully, they were able to get me in this afternoon.  The prognosis?  A flipping sinus infection.  I get these all of the time, so I pretty much had it figured out before I went to the doctor.  I had these same symptoms roughly two months ago, twice!  It has been an awful year for this crap.  They prescribed me with an antibiotic and sent me on my merry way.  Hopefully I start to feel better in the next few days.

I'll tell ya', trying to stay on a strict eating plan on a holiday weekend is very difficult.  I didn't do horrible, but I could've done a lot better too.  However, I did stick to my walking plan, except for yesterday and today.  Yesterday I didn't have any time, and today, well, I felt like crap, so getting some rest seemed like the obvious choice.  It's time to buckle down and get back on track.  I know getting back the the healthier eating and walking will make me feel better in no time.

Well, Ryder decided right now is his time to be crabby, so it's time to get him ready for bed.  Take care, have a lovely Wednesday tomorrow, and thanks for reading!

"The answers you seek shall be yours, once I claim what is mine."--Thor

It was another busy day for the Maurer clan.

I woke up around 6 or so, fed Ryder his bottle, then Darren and I bummed around a little, till about 7:30.  I decided to go for my walk without the little man this morning, and ended up walking about 2 miles.  I was hauling butt too!  I felt awesome after I was done, minus the nasty sweat from it being so humid.

I called mom to see if she and dad could watch Ryder for us today, and they ended up inviting us down for some breakfast.  We headed down to their house, and were there most of the morning.

Darren and I came back home, cleaned up a bit, and went down to Bloomington.  The first stop was the tanning salon so I could get one of my tans in for this week.  Then we went out to the theater to see "Thor."  Here is my review: FANTASTIC!!!! It was crazy good.  I was intrigued the whole time, and did not once look at my phone to see what time it was.  The story line was very different from other Marvel movies I've seen, but I thought it was done extremely well.  The acting was very good, the effects were great...I cannot praise this movie enough.  I went as far as to tell Darren it was my favorite Marvel movie thus far.  I highly recommend seeing this movie!

SO--I have another story about our visit to the theater.  Darren and I like to sit in the back row right in the middle.  We feel that is where we get the best movie viewing experience.  So, a teenage couple, probably not more than 16 or 17 years old, comes up to the back row as well, and sit in the very corner.  Fine, sit wherever you like. Then, I happen to glance over because I heard some rustling, and happened to see the girl going to town on the guys face/neck.  A complete makeout session was going on.  Again, fine, get a little frisky with the kissing, I really don't care, as long as you're not doing it in the row in front of me, right behind me, or right next to me.  At this point, it was really hard not to glance over there periodically, because it was completely distracting.  I then see the girl almost sitting on top of the guy with her hand on a very private area.  Here's where it gets interesting/gross:  I glance over again, and I see the girl's head down where the guys "package" is, bobbing up and down, with the guys hand placed on her head, kind of guiding the way.  HE WAS GETTING A BLOWJOB!  WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!?!  I seriously thought about going to get a theater employee.  Darren looked over at that point, and his face was priceless.  They probably realized we were on to what they were doing, so they started to actually watch the movie they paid for.  At the end, they were making out again, but whatever, at least I didn't have to see a bobbing head anymore.  Ick!  I mean, c'mon, who would do that in a theater, let alone a public place where people can SEE YOU?! YUCK YUCK YUCK!  They were so young too.  I know, I was that age once too, but I would never do that in a public place.  That is a very private moment....not something I want to share with an audience.

Anyway, after the theater, we went to the mall to do a little shopping.  We also hit up Best Buy and Meijer for a few things as well.  Our last stop in Bloomington was at Mings.  I finally got to have sushi!!! I hadn't had any since I got pregnant last year because you can't eat it while you're pregnant.  It was delicious!!!!!!

By that point, it was already past 7, so we had been in Bloomington for over 6 hours.  I was ready to get home to see my little man.

It has been a very long day.  Luckily I still have two days off of work to enjoy. Yay!  That's it for now.  Have a good one, and thanks for reading! :)

"Find a truly original idea. It is the only way I will ever distinguish myself. It is the only way I will ever matter."--A Beautiful Mind

Hello!  Well, we had a very busy day yesterday.  We headed down to Bloomington around 8:45am and didn't get home until 3:30pm.  Ryder had his 6 month pictures taken, and they turned out super cute.  I will post a few at the end of this post.  Then, we went over to Meijer for a few things, then went into Country to visit everyone at work.  I like to take Ryder in there about every two months so everyone can see him.  He was such a good boy the entire time, and was all smiles during the whole visit.  We were there for about an hour, then had to go over to Sams Club for a few items.  Our last stop was at Menards.  We bought a bunch of crescent edgers and brown mulch to begin our landscaping project.  I'm still trying to decide on what I want to plant.  I want something very simple and easy to take care of...so I'll just need to shop around a bit.  We also picked out some new doors for our house.  On our next visit, I am going to pick out some paint colors so we can start painting our downstairs, and I want to look at some ceiling fans and light fixtures, because our current ones are completely out dated.  Oh, the joys of owning a home! :)

So, I am not sure what we're going to do the rest of this long weekend.  I think Darren and I are going to head back down to Bloomington sometime to go see the movie "Thor."  I heard it is an excellent flick, so we definitely need to check it out.  We need to make some other stops, and do a little more shopping.  I love shopping, so no complaint from me!

I took Ryder for a walk this morning.  I try to walk for a decent amount of time everyday.  Darren told me yesterday he doesn't know how I walk so fast, because he has a hard time keeping up with me, lol.  Anyway, I love going on walks with Ryder.  He gibber jabbers the entire time, and I absolutely love listening to him!  It was an interesting walk this morning however....with each step I took, my workout pants slid down little by little.  I guess that means the inches and pounds are coming off, but I really don't want to buy new clothes just yet.  I may have to break down and do it eventually, but I am waiting until it's absolutely necessary.  And this brings me to my next news:  I have now surpassed my second weight goal, and am well on my way to reaching my next one!!  I like to set moderately small weight goals, like 5-10lbs at a time.  Once I reach my next weight goal, I may announce how much I have lost....but we'll see! :)

I also have an update on my little guy: he has discovered he can prop himself up on his knees, and has started to rock back and forth. I think we are going to have a crawling baby not too long from now.  He is starting to get quite the little personality on him, and is getting to be pretty stubborn.  However, he such a happy little man, and smiles and giggles all of the time.  I love him more than words!

As promised, here are some of Ryder's pictures from his session yesterday:

I hope you all enjoy these pictures.  He did so good!  Have a great rest of the day, and thanks for reading!!

Thankful

Hello all!  Sorry it's been a few days since I've written.  I wanted to get Monday-Thursday out of the way so I could enjoy my 5 days off!!  I am definitely stoked about the little break.

So, the title of my blog has some meaning behind it.  I'm sure you're all aware of the awful storms that have popped up and destroyed towns, homes, and not to mention lives.  I work in Insurance, and in close proximity to where the claims are filed, so I've heard quite a bit about what has happened and what these people are going through.  It really tugs at my heartstrings.  I've actually sat down and watched a few of the videos about the damage, and how people are still hopeful and looking for their loved ones.  It saddens me more than you can imagine and has brought me close to tears.  All of this has really made me feel thankful for the little things that I take for granted, like a roof over my head, electricity, being able to see my loved ones every day.....you get the idea.  There is one video that talks of a young male who had just graduated college.  He and his dad were in one vehicle, and the rest of his family in the vehicle in front.  They were very close to getting home, when the dad called the mom's cell and told her to pull into the garage and get in the house.  Before he and the son could get there, the son was sucked out of the sunroof of the vehicle.  The dad received injuries, but they haven't been able to locate the son.  There are other videos of families looking for their babies who are still missing from the tornadoes.  This is all so awful.  I ask everyone to please send your thoughts to these areas, and be thankful for everything/everyone you have in your lives.

I think that is about it for tonight.  Sorry if this was a bit of a downer, but I really had to let it out.  Thanks for reading!

And End to a Great Weekend

Well, the end is near for this weekend...bummer.  It was a really fun weekend too.  Thank goodness  Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner.  Darren and I both have 5 glorious days off.   I can't wait!

Friday, I took a few hours off early from work so I could come home and spend some extra time with my hubby and our little guy.  That afternoon/evening we went to visit mom at the bank so she and the other girls could see Ryder, then we decided to do some grocery shopping.  Friday night was pretty uneventful, and we hit the sack pretty early!

Saturday I went to Bloomington with Kara and a few of the other bridesmaids to go see the movie "Bridesmaids."  It was hysterical!  I haven't laughed that much in a movie in a real long time.  It was totally worth seeing in the theater.  Then, a few of us went to enjoy some food and drinks at T.G.I. Fridays.  It was delicious!!  I also got to spend some time with Danielle while she was up for the weekend.  It was great to catch up and visit for awhile.

Today I had Kara's bridal shower.  It was a lot of fun!!  I got to see a bunch of friends I don't get to see that often, and I got to meet some of my friends new little babies.  It was great!  I was holding a little 8 week old and I just melted.  I just love little babies!

So, along those lines, it was extremely difficult to stay on my Weight Watchers PointsPlus track this weekend. I didn't gain anything, which was kind of a surprise to me, but oh well.  I'll take those results with a very big smile!!!  I didn't realize LIGHT beer was worth so many points!  Luckily, I only had two, but still.....all of the goodies I was able to enjoy this weekend definitely tested my will power.

Here are two pics from over the weekend I thought were worth sharing:
This is Sarah holding her little girl Sylvia and my little guy Ryder.  Sylvia and Ryder are boyfriend and girlfriend.  They were holding hands, but I was too slow to get a picture of it.  It was so precious.  They are too cute together!!

Annnnd this is Ryder after getting home from the shower.  He was such a good boy throughout the whole shower, but was rubbing his eyes towards the end.  That probably contributed to the grouchiness.  Either that, or he really wanted to hang out with the girls a little longer. :)
Well, I guess that's it for now.  Have a good rest of the weekend (what's left of it anyway) and thanks for reading.

I have no idea....

Well, this is my first blog.  EVER!  We will see how this goes.  I thought I would start this whole thing off with some random facts about me...since this is a blog, and it's normally "ME ME ME!!"

** I married an amazing man on 10/18/08
**I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy on 12/6/10 via C-Section.  Ryder is my world!
**My family and friends are most important to me
** I am a movie fanatic. I will watch anything and everything, for the most part :)
**I love music as well. I am becoming more picky, but I'll still listen to most anything
** "Phantom of the Opera" speaks to me...no lie. It is absolutely amazing
**I am a huge, science fiction loving dork.
** I want to meet Chewbacca from Star Wars...BAD!
** Darren and I incorporated Star Wars into our wedding reception...which was AWESOME!
** I bawled like a baby in the last Harry Potter book...like three times
** I would rather sit at home and have a good time rather than going to a bar...
** I love to bake and cook.
** I cry when I watch "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast."
**I am brutally honest, and have a hard time keeping my mouth shut. haha
** I am content in my own skin.
** I have a low tolerance for ignorance and stupidity. In all forms.
So, sorry if those are completely random, but that's the way my thinking is most days.
On to my first topic, which will probably come up again and again:  my weight loss regimen.  I have been doing this for almost 6 weeks.  I won't go on about how much I've lost, blah blah blah.  But, I will tell you that I have met my first weight goal, and am pretty darn close to meeting my second weight goal.  What am I doing?  Well, it started out as just counting calories and trying to walk as much as possible.  Recently, I decided to join weight watchers, mainly because I was curious if my calorie idea was matching up with their PointsPlus program.  It totally was!  I was so happy at that point!!  The other reason for joining:  the recipes.  They have so many yummy recipes on that site, I couldn't pass it up.  Plus, they endorse a lot of different food brands, and have their own snacks, which already have the Points value on them.  How easy is that?  So far, so good.  I have had my good days and bad days.  On the bad days, Darren is always there to pick me back up.  He believes in me, and that's all I can ask for.  It's a big motivater!!  Sooo...more updates to come on that.
Now, everyone warned me babies grow up fast.  I did not believe them until I realized it for myself.  My baby boy is almost 6 months old, and is dang close to 20 pounds already!!  Granted, he was a big boy at birth (10lb 2oz) but still, he is growing like a weed.  He has started to scoot a lot, so I have a feeling he will be crawling very soon.  I am having a serious baby itch going on right now, which I didn't think would happen this soon.  We'll see how that conversation goes with Darren, haha.
Well, I've babbled on long enough tonight.  Enjoy the rest of the night, and thanks for reading!!
