"May the odds be ever in your favor."--The Hunger Games

The hubby and I had a Sunday fun-day date, and we went and saw "The Hunger Games."  Here is the trailer if you want to take a peek... :)

The movie is based off of the first book in the trilogy series.  The books are absolutely fantastic, and I recommend them to anyone and everyone.  Within the first chapter I was hooked, and I love it when that happens!! Before seeing the movie, I would suggest reading the book as well, just to be able to fully understand the and appreciate what's going on in the movie.

Now, mind you, I am pretty picky when it comes to movies based off of books.  Don't get me wrong, I'll still go see them, but I am usually disappointed.  It's pretty much slim to none when the movie comes close to being as good as the book, or if the movie is better than the book.  So, what did I think of this particular effort......?

I really liked it!  I thought it was a pretty good adaptation of what was depicted in the book.  Of course, key points (or, what I thougth were key points) were left out of the movie, but, it still worked.  I mean, I get it....It's hard to include every-stinkin'-little-detail.   The acting was excellent, and it was actually believable.  The effects were not over-bearing, and what special effects were done actually went well with the movie.  The emotional portrayal of the characters was well done as well.  I teared up in a few parts because it was very raw, powerful, and you could feel the hate and sadness the characters had to convey.

All in all, I give this one two thumbs up.  D-Ron liked it as well...(he is also a nerd and is a fan of the books).  It's definitely worth a viewing on the big screen. :)

That's all she wrote folks.  Thanks for reading! :)

March Favorites

I know it's early, but I decided to post my March favorites list a bit early.  Why, you ask?

a.)  The voices told me to do it....really, this is totally true.
b.)  Letter 'a' is not true.....or is it?!
c.)  This list of reasons is really going nowhere fast....

So, I give you my March favorites :)

Grilling :)  (photo credit)

This weather has been amazing, with the exception of the early onset of allergy symptoms.  I love grilling season, and what makes it even more awesome is that we have been able to do grill outside in March!  My belly has been more than satisfied lately. :)

The weather

Ryder loves playing outside, and this weather has been great for that.  He loves running around like a un-coordinated lunatic (I mean that lovingly, of course) and making us chase after him.  It's also been so nice to finally open the windows and let some of the outside air get into the house. :)

Flip flops--- I like Old Navy flip flops the best.  I love how many different color options and variations are made available to us, because we all know flip flops are seriously addictive. :)

HA!  For the second time on my list of favorites---the Arby's Medium Roast Beef Sandwich.  I can't get enough of this's actually on my lunch menu for today.  YUM!

Well, that about wraps up my March favorites.  I feel like March just started, and now we're already in the downhill slope and getting ready for April.  It's crazy how quick the time is going.

Have a great rest of your Friday, and as always, thanks for reading my crazy ramblings. :)

New Blog Template

Yay!!  My new blog template has been installed. I am so happy with the way it turned out! :)  Now I feel like I have a 'pretty' blog.  I have some work to do updating the pages in the navigation bar, but I hope to have all of that done fairly soon.  It's a good thing there are sites that offer templates for blogs and such, because I am nowhere near 'design and HTML savvy', that's for sure!

So, I can't believe it's already Thursday....this week has gone by pretty quick, for me anyway.  This weekend will be a busy one, but it will be a fun kind of busy.

Aaaaand, that's really all I have to say at the moment.  Haha, thanks for reading!!  If you get a chance, let me know how you like the new blog template!! :)

This Might Be A Little All Over the Place

I have a lot of random thoughts running rampid through my brain today.  Let's see if I can sort through it all.

--My left eye hurts...or, more like up above and around my eye.  I wear contacts, but  the left one is a special lens for astigmatism.  It's weighted, and it constantly moves around so everything is blurry.  It's annoying.  I just took my contacts out and switched to my glasses, and lo-and-behold...the pain went away.

--Speaking of lenses, I have some new ones in mind for my camera.  I am in the market for a wide angle lens, and some others of course.  It would really help with the landscape pictures I've been taking for class.  Too bad a lot of wide angle lenses are worth a lot of cheddah....bummer, man!

--I miss wearing my Uggs.  It's too dang hot for them right now.  So, they are officially retired for the season, and my flip flops are getting some major use right now.

--I want some cake.  It sounds delicious right about now.

--Throw in some chinese or Arby's, and you'll have one happy Sara on your hands!! :)

--S & D Maurer Photography is completely booked for the month of April, and we have started to book sessions in May.  We are super busy, and so happy and excited at how things have been going.  We have some awesome sessions coming up! :)

--From time to time, I wonder who reads this blog.  I know I look at  stalk a lot of people's blogs, and I love reading about what's going on.  So, I wonder who reads about our little world...and it's been on my mind a lot more lately.  If you read this bloggy blog, shoot me a comment!  It's fun to see who's all out there. :)

That may be all for today ladies and gents.  Sorry it was random, but that's just the kinda' gal I am.  Take care, and thanks for reading! :)

Class Update

So, I thought I would update you all on my second class for Photography.  I guess I should tell you all how the first class went. The first class really taught me a bunch, and this one isn't disappointing in that aspect either.  I got an 'A' in the first class, and I'm really hoping I can keep up the trend. We'll see how it goes as time progresses and the classes become more difficult.

For this class, our assignments are based on choosing four different catalog stock themes to photograph.  We were able to choose whatever we wanted, and my choice of themes are people, landscapes, nature, and texture.  For some reason, I struggle with landscapes.  I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and focus more on challenging myself and learning a different aspect of photography.  I think I'm doing better, but, I still have a lot to learn.

I've been getting nothing but great critiques from my professor and from the other students, so, I would say it's going well.

I found three pictures that I decided to edit for fun.  I 'm digging how they turned out! :)

I played with the color tint on these first two.  I decided to make them less colorful to bring out the barn and the tree in each one.

This was a neat little ravine I found outside of Fairbury.  Pretty nifty. :)

That's all she wrote, folks.  Thanks for reading! :)

Friday Night at the Park

I couldn't stand to be cooped up in the house while the weather is this gorgeous, so, tonight we decided to walk out to the park and let Ryder run around a bit.  This kid is a fast little thing....we may have a future track star on our hands, haha.

He loves being outside and being able to run around :)

Aaaand, he's off!

He's pretty quick, that's for sure!

"I haven't felt this green stuff in quite some time...I don't like it....I like the concrete better." a.k.a. he didn't want to stay in the grass too long, but he had no problem running/falling on the hard concrete.  Whatev, right?

Baby butt!!

"Chase me daddy!!"

"C'mon slow're totally eating my dust..."

"HA! I win again old man!" :) haha

Of course, he can't smile for me.

Instead, he looks at me like I'm a crazy camera mom or something.....pft, like that's even true...

See Ryder's face?  He's whining....he wanted to leave.

Rare pictures of me and baby R-Dub

Wow....two rare ones in a row.  I'm on a roll today!

Have a good night all!  Thanks for reading. :)

The Ides of March

Today is a very special day to a certain someone very near and dear to my heart.  Today is the hubby's birthday, and he turns the B-I-G 27 today.  Happy birthday Darren!
You make me smile everyday :)
You obviously have a love for your flannel jacket and have a love for your array of t-shirts....some strange, some nerdy (aka AWESOME), and some I want to throw away and never look at again....

You are a wonderful dad to our baby boy :)

And, you are an amazing hubby who loves me unconditionally and supports me no matter what :)

Plus, you are one studley creature,  Mr. you always tell me, anyway... :)

Have a great birthday, and I hope you enjoy your birthday dinner of McDonalds  (his choice of meal---he could eat it everyday).  Maybe you should wear your t-shirt that says your a "McStud" while eating your meal...just throwing that out there... ;)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  Ryder and I love you more than we could ever express!

15 Month Stats and Easter Mini-Sessions

Our lil' dude is now 15 months old.  I still can't believe how fast the time is going.  He went to the good ole' doc on Friday for his 15 month well-check appt.  Here are his stats:

Weight: 26.8 lbs-- 75th percentile
Height: 32 inches--75th percentile

He is still only in the 20th percentile for his head circumference, so baby R-Dub has a small noggin. :)  The doc says he's doing great, and he is really pleased with the number of words he says and how much he understands.  I am one proud mama for sure!  The doc also said he could see that Ryder will be getting his molars very soon.  I've heard these aren't very I guess we'll see how it goes.

On Saturday, I had some Easter mini-sessions scheduled.  I had three scheduled (which included Ryder) and I thought that amount was perfect!!  I was able to spend more time on each session and I think they turned out super cute.  Here are a few from each session:

This little girl is just plain adorable.  Look at her curls! :) She was so much fun to take pictures of!

This next little guy really made me work for his smiles, but the work definitely paid off.  Such a cutie!

And, of course I had to include a few from Ryder's session. :)  He did such a great job in front of the camera.  I think he's really starting to get into the whole picture taking thing. Yay! :)

Today I took pictures at a little boy's first birthday party.  It was a lot of fun!  He definitely enjoyed the cake aspect of the event.  He tore into that cake like it was no one's business.  It was adorable.  I can't wait to start editing some of those pictures!

Everyone have a great night, and thanks for reading! :)

11 Random Facts

I got tagged by Jessie to complete the 11 Random Facts challenge.  It came at a perfect time, because a.) I thought it was a cute idea and enjoyed reading her facts and answers.  I saw it on the blog marital-bless as well and enjoyed reading hers.... and b.) I needed a new post and I had nothin' up my blogger sleeve.....  Hooray for blog challenges!!

So, I also get to tag people to participate in this challenge.  The lucky ladies I have decided to tag are: Kelsey, Jarrin and Erin.  If you decide to participate, have fun ladies!!

The Rules

1.) Post these rules
2.) You must post 11 random things about yourself
3.) Answer the questions set for you in the post you were tagged in
4.) Create 11 new questions for your tagees to answer
5.) Tag them on Twitter, Facebook or your blog

11 Random Facts

1.)  I bite my nails without even realizing I do it.  I had fake nails once, and I tried biting them didn't work out so well.

2.)  After being preggo and having Mr. Ryder, my stomach is like jell-o.  It used to be one solid piece of fat, but now it molds and takes shape where ever it wants.  I call it "the blob."

3.)  Pizza is my favorite food.  I could eat it every single day.  That's not an exaggeration.....

4.)  I like to gamble on slot machines.

5.)  I want another tattoo....a green tattoo.  I like the color green for tattos. :)  I want my boys incorporated with it somehow.

6.)  I used to hate tacos/mexican food, but now it runs a close 2nd as my favorite food.  Yum!

7.)  I use a lot of hairspray on my hair, the reason being I wear my hair in a ponytail every day.  I already get up at a sickening 5am...and I refuse to get up any earlier to style my hair differently. You may think the answer is to cut my longer hair so it's easier to style, but, my hair is still thick.  Even when it's short it takes awhile to do....

8.)  I have to take my showers in the morning, otherwise I don't feel right all day.  I can't take my showers at night, because then in the morning my hair is a thick, unmanageable furball that can't even be tamed in a ponytail.  So, we can't have that.

9.)  I am addicted to Pampered Chef and Scentsy products.  Good cookin' stuff, and good smellin' stuff.

10.)  I don't like to wear a lot of makeup.  I don't like the way heavy make-up feels on my face.  One thing I hardly go without is mascara.  It's my fave....

11.)  I have so many different things going on at once, I am surprised I remember it all most days.  But, I love the craziness and wouldn't trade it for anything! :)

11 Questions from Jessie:

1. What is your favorite fast food chain?
Right now, it is Arby's.  I could seriously devour a medium roast beef sammy right now...

2. Do you like to work-out?
If I am motivated, yes.  I enjoy the feeling after a good work out.

3. What kind of sports do you like to watch?
Pro football, preferably the Bears.  That's it.  I'm not too into sports.

4.  Who is your favorite band/musical artist?
I like a lot of different music, so it's hard for me to pick a favorite.  A few of my favorites are Journey, Michael Jackson and Huey Lewis and the News...oh, and of course hair bands. :)

5. What's your favorite movie/why?
HA!  I can't pick just one favorite.  It's literally impossible for me.  I'm getting a brain hemmorhage just thinking about....Ah!  I need to get away from this question.  See this old blog post for a look into some of my faves...

6.  What's your dream vacation?
Rome, Italy.  'Nuff said.

7.  If you didn't live in where you live, where would you go?
I'm not too sure.  Of course, there would be many potential places I could go... :)

8.  How many kids, if any, would you have?
2.  It's a nice even numero.

9. Is there a celebrity that gets on your nerves? Why?
A lot of them do for a lot of different reasons.  Let's just leave it at that.

10. Whose blog do you stalk religiously? Why?
I stalk a lot of people's blogs.  However, one I go to constantly is The Pioneer Woman. Ree is hilarious, and I love reading all of her posts.  Plus, her recipes are really yummy, and all of the sections on her site are awesome!

11. Do you have a suggestion on a blog? Why?
The ones I follow are all on the side of my page...check em' out!!  I think they're pretty darn dandy myself! :)

Exciting Things are-a Comin'

This post was originally going to be about movies I am SO PUMPED for that are coming up, but then I realized there are more things/events coming up than just freakishly-awesome movies that I am excited about.  But, I'm still going to talk about the movies along with the other stuff...c'mon, it's me we're talking about here! :)

I am so dang excited to see this movie, I can hardly contain myself.  The book was intense and wonderful.  But, even though I am overly excited, I am a little hesitant.  It's very rare that a movie based off of a book is as good as the book, so I really don't want to be disappointed with it.  Based on the trailers I've seen, including the one above, I think I'll be more than happy with the movie. :)

Seriously, what could be cooler than having a bunch of super-heros work together for safety of humanity?  Nothing!  If you are a fan of Marvel flicks and/or characters, this is a trailer you want to watch so you can get pumped for the movie.  It comes out in April! YAY!!!

It's no secret that I am a sci-fi/fantasy dork.  I love it all.  These things make me happy.  So, it's definitely no shocker that I am excited for The Hobbit-Part 1 coming out this year.  I am a big LOTR (Lord of the Rings) fan, so I can't wait to see  these flicks.  YAY again!!

In other exciting things amongst us, Darren and I have been given an incredible opportunity to buy a different house.  I will talk about it more in the very near future, but, I am excited to say that we are going to be putting our current house up for sale.  It's not on the market yet, but will be very soon.  I wanted to go ahead and get the word out so it could spread a bit.  We are very excited/anxious/nervous about this, and really, I can't wait to explain all of this in more detail. :)

My mother-in-law Lisa just got engaged!  Congrats Lisa and Kevin!!! I am so happy for you two, and I am so excited to celebrate this special day with you all!!   (P.S.--I get to be the photographer of the day at the wedding/reception; how special and cool is that?!)

I start a new class next week.  I still can't believe my first class will be done on Tuesday.  It's craziness I tell you!  It's gone very well, and I can't wait to start the next one!

We have some fun photo sessions coming up this weekend and in the coming weeks.  I'm excited for these so I can share them with you all! :)

I think I'm on excitement overload folks.  Have a good day, and thanks for reading!
