Weekly Wrap-Up/Busy Bustle

A few things happened to me this week:

::: I discovered a new sandiwch at Panera.  It's not really 'new' per say, but, it is new to me because I hadn't tried it before.  It is the Bacon Turkey Bravo sandwich.  Try it now; it is super delicious.

::: I dropped my milkshake in the parking lot yesterday.  Do you think that stopped me from picking it up and devouring the rest?  Please....

::: I finished the book 'Hidden' by P.C. and Kristin Cast.  It is the latest installment in the House of Night series.  It was really good, but now I have to wait until next year for the next one to be released.  Gah....I don't wanna wait.

::: I realized I am finally in the Christmas spirit, because I about pee'd myself when I saw 'Elf' was going to be on TV this weekend, which means other Christmas classics are right around the corner.

Now, onto the busy bustle that is my weekend....

I feel like if I document my upcoming weekend activities on the blog, it somehow prepares me for the busy bustle of it all.  Anyone else ever feel that way? I'm probably the only weirdo who feels this way, but I am OK with it.

::: I have a newborn session tonight with a sweet little girl.  I can't wait to meet her and take her pictures.  Newborns are one of my favorites to photograph. :-)

::: I have two sessions tomorrow, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and then another session on Sunday.  This is our last super busy weekend with photo sessions due to the holidays in December.  We're already almost fully booked in December, and we've already started booking in January and February! I'm so glad we are staying busy with it all! :-)

::: After our sessions tomorrow, it's off to finish up shopping for Ryder's 2nd birthday.  I still can't believe he'll be two in less than a week.  Where did my baby go?! :-(

::: Speaking of R-Dub, I need to finish up things for his bday party so it doesn't look like I through this together in a week, even though I totally did.  I just don't want it to look shitty....so, we'll see how it all gets pulled together.

::: D-Ron and I have been photo editing machines lately.  We have made a pretty good dent into everything, which makes me less stressed and makes my anxiety a little less noticeable.  However, we still have a lot to finish, so I'm sure a bunch of time will be spent on that.

I'm tired already.

Have a great weekend, peeps! :-)

I'm Terrible at This

I'm not a 'fashionista' by any means.  I dress for comfort most of the time.

I know how to straighten my hair, and put it up in a ponytail....and that's basically the extent of it.  I haven't held a curling iron in years.

I know how to apply makeup, but I rarely go beyond the minimal powder concealers.  I used to be a mascara oficianado, but, that has slowly diminished.

What does the above have to do with anything?

Well, the hubby's work Christmas party is coming up, and I'm trying to figure out what to wear.  I want to be able to rock a cute look, spanning from what I'm wearing to how I've dolled my face and hair up.

I'm. not. good. at. this.

So, I'm putting together a little outfit idea for the work Christmas shin-dig.  The dress is casual, and in past years it has been a mix of dressier attire to people wearing jeans.  All of it is acceptable. I'm definitely a jeans person....so here's what I'm thinking:

Women's Tie-Belt Short-Sleeve Cardis

But, instead of a short sleeve shirt, I would layer it with this:
Women's Scoop-Neck Softest Sweaters

or this
Women's Vintage-Style V-Neck Tees

BUT, there are so many colors to choose from.  Which route should I take?  Should I stick to a more neutral laying shirt, like white or cream?  Or, should I make it more colorful, like turquoise, green, or a pink/red color?  I have no idea.

I'm thinking a pair of skinny jeans will look nice with this, because I found these awesome boots that I may just have to get.  They are wide-calf, which is exactly what I need:
Plus Size Jali Tall Buckle Wide Calf Boots image

I think I would stick with this color, or go for the darker brown color.

I'm getting my hair trimmed and colored on Monday, so I'm hoping I can do something cute with it.  Thoughts?  I have super thick, wavy/curly hair.  I normally straighten it, but should I curl it as well?

Gah....I wish I was better at this crap.

Any help anyone can give would be amaze-balls.

Happy Thursday, friends. :-)

Tuesday Topics: Anywhere in the World

10 Day Challenge Link Up
Linking up with Lauren and Tiffany for another Tuesday Topics post.

If I could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?

A few years ago, I would have just said Rome, Italy.  But, if we're being serious here, I would definitely throw the rest of Europe into the mix.

Seriously, come on....how gorgeous are these places, man?!

France

England

Italy

Ireland

Greece

....just to name a few. :-)

I think a European excursion sounds just splendid.  Here's hoping, right? ;-)

Happy Tuesday!!

A Quick Update

Do you ever have those days where you are so thirsty, and no matter how hard you try, you just can't quench that thirst?  Yeah, that's me today.

Oh...yeah...the update thang...

:::Thanksgiving was great.  I decided to be brave and try the Pioneer Woman's recipe for mashed potatoes.  I wasn't sure how this would go, because I usually make them the day of, and mash them up right before we eat.  I will NEVER make mashed potatoes that old way again.  This recipe is the shit.  No lies. These potatoes were AMAZING!!!!!  I highly recommend making them the good ol' Pioneer Woman way!

:::I decided to be crazy and go Black Friday shopping at 9pm on Thursday night.  I don't think I'll do it again for a few reasons.
a.)  The crowds were ridiculous.  And someone made a comment to me stating I had no self respect.  I didn't say or do anything to this person, except maybe squeeze in an already moving line gravitating towards the entrance to Target.  It was interesting and made me chuckle.

b.)  There's nothing I needed that bad.  I didn't get the TV I wanted, and I talked myself out of the iPad.

So, what did I buy?  A shark steam mop, a blu-ray player, and a Xmas tree.  I also bought some misc. stuff for Ryder, but nothing that I couldn't have gotten any other day.

You know what's crazier?  After getting home at 4am, I got back up at 8am, and went back out shopping.  I'm a dumb dumb.

:::We've started decorating for Christmas.  We have our tree up and our outside lights up.  I've even started addressing our Christmas cards.  I'm usually doing this crap 2 weeks before Christmas.   At least I'm on top of something this year....

:::Me and my brother's fiance Kinzey drug the boys to go see 'Breaking Dawn Part 2' Saturday.  Of course, the guys could care less, but Kinzey and I about had a conniption fit at one point.  If you're a fan of the movies and/or books, you should go see it.  It wasn't bad at all.

:::Sunday was spent running a few errnads/editing/catching up on house crap.  I'm still not caught up.  Yay.

Happy Monday, folks.  I hope your day has been splendid. :-)

The Night Before Christmas

The hubby and I decided to change up the Christmas pictures for this year.  The hubby thought it would be cute to have Ryder in his Christmas PJ's, and I had heard of a "Night Before Christmas" photo session idea, and I thought I would put them both together.  It was super easy to set this up, and Ryder loves being in his PJ's, so it was definitely a win-win.

Let's just say I can't wait to send out our Chrismas cards this year. :-)

Happy Wednesday...aka...Thanksgiving Eve.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow, no matter how you are spending the day. :-)

Tuesday Topics: Describe Your Perfect Day

10 Day Challenge Link Up
Linking up with Lauren and Tiffany for another round of Tuesday Topics. :-)  Today's topic is describing my perfect day.

Well, to be fair, I've had a couple of perfect days so far, and let me just start with those.

Of course, one of the best and one of my most perfect days was October 18th, 2008....our wedding day.

Seriously, it was an amaze-balls day. I still remember it like it was yesterday, and I hope to hold on to the memory of it for as long as I can. :-)

Another already perfect day of mine (although it didn't seem like it at the time because of raging blood pressure issues) was the day we welcomed our son into this world...December 6th, 2010.

Becoming a mommy is an indescribable feeling, but one good word to describe it is perfect. It's better than I could have ever imagined.

So, my idea of another perfect day?!  Spending a day on the beach with my boys and the rest of my amazing family and friends sounds like bliss.  This beach will do just fine. :-)

Hhheeeelllooooo gorgeous!

Great, now all I can think about is the beach.  Lucky for me, in less than a year this perfect day will be a reality!! My brother and his fiance are getting married in Jamaica next October, so I will get to live out this perfect day.  Fo' shizzle!!!! ;-)

Have a good day, peeps! :-)

What up, friends?

Sorry I have been a little splotchy with my posts lately.  I've come down with a little bug/sinus infection, aka, hovering near death, so I have been trying to nurse myself back to health with tons of medicine, prescription and non prescription.

My thoughts on this:
--I have zero time for this right now.  I had to reschedule a session that I had set up last night, because I did not want to get a 6 week old baby sick.  I'm hoping that I get better ASAP because I have 6 sessions this Saturday, and 3 on Sunday.  Craziness, fo' sho'.

--This may be TMI, but at this point in my sickness juncture, I've lost the ability to comprehend what TMI really is...but, I didn't realize I would become this massive snot monster.  Seriously, it's disgusting.

--I miss sleep.

Now, onto some other ramblings, which I'm sure you're all excited for....right?  Yeah, I thought so....

--I accidentally ordered invites for R-Dub's birthday party that had the wrong day listed.  Awesome.

--I need to order invites for our Ugly Christmas Sweater party coming up in December (ROCK ON) and I need to re-order R-Dubs invites.

--I need to get a handle on my Christmas shopping/shopping for R-Dubs bday.  His party/birthday is 3 weeks away, and we are almost to the 1 month mark for Christmas.  Say whhaaaa?

--So, I'm hosting Thanksgiving again this year, which means I need to make my house look presentable for our guests.  I wish I had a place to put all of my random crap.  Remind me never to move again.

--I sold a lens on Ebay (yay) but they said I won't get my funds until approximately 11/28/12 (huh?) even though I bought my shipping label through them to gain access to the funds faster.  Seriously, Ebay, I want my moolah.

--Did I mention how excited I am for Black Friday shopping? Even though it really starts on Thursday now...which ultimately defeats the purpose of black Friday shopping madness.  Screw it, I'm still going on Friday.  I'm keeping it real.

--Have any of you seen the Nicole Westbrook 'It's Thanksgiving' video?  If not, you're missing out....check it out.

Amaze-balls, right?.....haha

Happy Thursday, friends!

Tuesday Topics: Blog Identity

Linking up with Lauren and Tiffany for another Tuesday Topics post.  Today's post is all about blogging. :-)

What is your blog about?
Well, my blog is about a lot of things, but, the main focus is on the shenanigans that make there way into our little world.  I talk a lot about my hubby, our son, and our family/friends.  I am also a professional photographer on the side, so I like to share pictures from my most recent sessions.  I am actually in the process of setting up a new blog for that portion of our lives, so stay tuned for that. :-)  In all honesty, this blog is just a mish-mash of everything that goes on, anything that I may be thinking, and is a great way for me to document what's been happening.  It's been great to look back and remember the small things, and the big things that have happened.

Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging as a way to let off some steam, to document what goes on day-to-day, and to keep some close family/friends updated on our lives.  It has turned in to so much more than that.  Before I started blogging myself, I read a lot of blogs, and realized I wanted to get involved with it as well.  The blogging community is such a great one, and I've been able to get to know a lot of wonderful people.  I enjoy reading other blogs, and I love being able to share my thoughts/feelings/ramblings with others.  It's a great outlet, and I am so happy to be a part of it all.  I sometimes still have a hard time letting my guard down, but I am working on it. :-)

What's something your readers know about you?
I'm hoping my readers know a lot. ;-)  That's the whole point of blogging, right?  I'm sure they know I'm married to Darren, we have one child, Ryder, and we have four fur babies (two cats, and two dogs.)  I share my love for movies and photography, a lot, so I'm sure my readers have my love for all of these things beaten into their brains. :-)  I tend to ramble a lot in my posts, which I'm sure readers have noticed as well.  One other thing, I'm sure you've all noticed that I use smiley faces...a lot. :-)....see?

What can't you live without?
My hubby, son, family, friends....my camera....my phone/computer/technology in general....movies....pizza.

What inspires your blog posts?
It really just depends on the day.  One day, Darren or Ryder may have inspired my post; or one of my sessions may have inspired me that day; or, I may have a lot going on and need to ramble it all out, so that is my inspiration.  That's the beauty of blogging; anything can be an inspiration for a post.

What do you do when you feel uncreative?
These are the posts where you may see me ramble.  A lot.    Sometimes, I may not even blog, and I go about my day/life and stumble across something creative to delve into.

How has blogging changed you?
In all honesty, how I am on my blog is how I am in general.  There are times where I may hold back on my blog, but, with each post I'm becoming more comfortable with sharing things and really becoming vulnerable and open with you all, and myself.  I guess that's how blogging has ultimately changed me.  I typically shield my emotions, which inevitably causes me to boil over and explode uncontrollably.  I think I've gotten a bit better about that since starting this blog.  I still have my moments, but it's getting better.

What advice do you have for new bloggers?
Be genuine; be kind; be open-minded.  The blogging community is such a vast and diverse one, I am constantly learning something new and connecting with amazing people.

What blogs inspire you?
Do you see all of those buttons/blog reel on the side right over there? -------->
All of those blogs, in one way or another, inspire me.  They are wonderful ladies, and I am so happy/proud to be a follower of their blog.

That was a fun topic!!  Happy Tuesday, friends! :-)

Ryder's Birthday Party Ideas

Ryder's birthday is fast approaching (December 6th....I still can't believe we'll have a two year old) and his party theme this year is "Star Wars."  I've decided that Darren and I can still pick out these awesome nerd-filled themes while he's still too young to object.  Am I right or am I right?!

So, I'm super excited about this party because I get to shop for all things Star Wars, and let's just say, Etsy has been my source for finding all of this great stuff.  Here's what I have found so far:

I found this awesome invite template, and had it customized with the party info.  Isn't it adorable?! Yes, I realize the day of the week is wrong....I'm working on getting this corrected. :-)

Star Wars Birthday Banner

I just love this, and I think it will look awesome for Ryder's party.  Obviously, it will say 'Ryder is 2!', but I'm sure you get the gist of it.

Darth Vader & Storm Trooper rings use as cupcake picks or cake toppers, for your Star Wars boy birthday space themed party goodie bag favor

I'm having cupcakes made for his party, just because I think it's a fun party food, and I found these cupcake topper rings.  I think they're awesome and will look great on top of the cupcakes!

I also have two different Star Wars cookbooks that I'll be making treats from.

The Star Wars Cookbook II: Darth Malt and More Galactic Recipes (Hardcover)The Star Wars Cookbook: Wookiee Cookies and Other Galactic Recipes (Hardcover)

I am known for my bad-ass Wookiee Cookie making skills, and I am so excited to try other recipes in these books.  I actually found a new Star Wars cookbook, so I went ahead and ordered it as well.  Here's what I'm thinking for some treats:

Ewok Treats:   I actually got this recipe from a co-worker, and I decided to name it for the party.  It is bugals, doritos and cheetohs with popcorn oil and ranch packet seasoning sprinkled and mixed in.  It is baked at 325* for 30 minutes.  IT IS SO GOOD!

Wookiee Cookies:  These are just basically chocolate chip cookies.  Good stuff, yo!

Han-burgers:  I'm thinking of making these smaller, kind of like sliders.

Yoda-soda:  It is like a carbonated lime punch.

Dark-side cupcakes:  Cupcakes with the appropriate topper rings

There will be more, but this is all I've thought of so far.

I think this is shaping up to be an amazingly dorky/nerdy birthday gig.  What do you all think?

Happy Friday, peeps.  May the force be with you. ;-)

All I Want for Christmas

....I have no idea.  People ask me what I want for Christmas, and I really haven't a clue what to tell them.    I definitely would prefer that no one buy me anything, but, we all know how that goes. I know what I will be buying myself for the big ho ho ho day, but as far as what to tell everyone else, bah, I don't know.  And yes, I buy myself presents.  In fact, this is what the hubby and I do.  We don't really buy eachother gifts.  We buy gifts for ourselves throughout the year, and then we may buy a thing or two together or for ourselves around the holiday season.  We're a strange bunch.  I'm ok with it.

So,  here are some things I have my eye on that I'm hoping to snag up myself this year.  I honestly don't expect, nor do I want anyone else to buy me this stuff.  This is my list for myself.  Make sense?  Not really?  Mmmmk.  ;-)

Apple iPad 2 Tablets
An Ipad

I have had my eye on these since they came out.  I already have a Kindle Fire that I use for reading and some internet stuff, but I love me some Apple products, so, I kind of want to bite the bullet and get one.  We'll see if I can find a ballin' black Friday deal or not.  Let's hope I do!! :-)

Sony BDP Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi (Black)

We already have one Blu-Ray player, but I would really like to put our current one in our bedroom, and get a new one for the living room.  Again, I am hoping I can find an awesome black Friday deal for this item.

Some new lenses

So, I know I just bought an awesome lens, but these two would be fantastic additions to my collection.  However, these will have to wait.  They are definitely worth some dolla' bills, y'all.  Time to save up!

Plus Size Wilsons Leather Classic Lamb Belted Hipster w/ Zip Out Liner - Wilsons Leather

I'm terrible about wearing coats and jackets.  To be quite honest, I don't even own a winter jacket right now.  Yes, scold me if you must, but, I don't have one.  I have a hard time with wool coats/pea coats with the buttons, and I used to have a leather jacket, and I adored it.  I think I want to go back to leather.  We'll see if I can find a good deal on one of these, too. :-)

More UGG goodness

I am addicted to UGGs, whether my husband likes it or not.  So, I'm hoping to add at least one new pair to my stash this year.

Well, that's it for my list of things I'm hoping to buy for myself.  If I am able to snag up just one of these things, I will be super duper happy. :-)

Now, what to buy everyone that's on my list?!  That's another post entirely.  Just know that I'll be checking my naughty or nice list...maybe even twice. ;-)

Happy Wednesday, peeps! :-)

Tuesday Topics: Ten Million Dollars

10 Day Challenge Link Up
I am so excited to join Lauren and Tiffany for the new Tuesday link-up:  Tuesday Topics.  Today's topic is ten things I would do with a million dollars.

1.) First and foremost, I would like to pay off my debt.  To be debt free would be an insanely awesome feeling.  :-)

2.)  Next, I would spread the wealth within my family.  I would love to be able to help pay off some of their debt and make their lives just a bit easier.

3.)  Another thing I would LOVE to do would be take a trip oversees.  I would love to travel to...

Italy.  This is my dream vacation.  I would also love to go to...

Ireland.  Talk about gorgeous. :-)

4.)  I would also like to buy myself some more camera equipment.  I have a few other lenses that I have my eye on, and I would love to add a few extra camera 'bodies' to my collection.

5.)  While we're on that subject, I would like to build a studio area from the ground up.  That way, I have full say on how it gets built and what is included.  That would be stinkin' fabulous.

6.)  New vehicles would definitely be in my reach if I had ten million dollars.  How about a Yukon and a GMC Sierra?  I think I could make that happen fo'sho'!

7.)  I would love to donate money to different organizations: Relay for Life; St. Jude; anything involving cancer research...I'm sure there are tons I am forgetting. :-)

8.) Building my dream home and filling it with all sorts of shiny new things sounds like a splendid way to spend that million dolla's. ;-)  Hot tub, anyone?

9.)  Setting aside money for Ryder and his future is another thing I would definitely do with a million dollars.  Whether it is for college or just his future in general, having that set aside for him would be a huge life saver.

10.)  I know this isn't fancy or even fun, but I would invest/save a portion of that million as well, just so that way I get ample interest out of it.

Believe it or not, thinking of 10 things for this topic was harder than it sounds.  Maybe I'm just off of my game today, man.

Stay tuned for next Tuesday's topic...all about blogging! :-)

Have a wonderful day, peeps.

I'm Trying

I feel like I can't stay on top of anything these days.  I've been trying to be a better blogger and post more about how the Maurer world goes 'round, but instead, here I sit, almost a full week since my last post, which really wasn't a 'written post' as much as it was just an abundance of pictures of my kid.  Which isn't a bad thing, but, I want those pictures to be accompanied by actual words, too.

I know I say this all of the time, but I am so incredibly busy that most days I don't know my left from my right..(no, seriously, the hubster was giving me step by step directions in the car yesterday, and when he told me to turn right, I turned left).  I wish I was kidding about that last bit, but it really happened.

I feel like my time is fleeting, and I am missing out on the very important family together-ness that is already extremely limited.  At times I just want to drop everything and take a few minutes to myself....and take a few minutes to spend with my fellas.  But, at the same time, I have a responsibility to get things done, to get sessions edited, to get everything in line for the week, to get the bills paid, to get dinner made, to get whatever else needs to be done, done.  It's never-ending.  This is life, right?

I just wish there was more time.  I do the best I can under the circumstances, but I wish I could do more.  It's so difficult working basically two full-time jobs, and staying on top of the home stuff, and setting aside ample family time.  My husband is seriously amazing and helps me out so much, and for that, I am so incredibly lucky and thankful.

On top of all of this, the holiday season is upon us, which is normally my favorite time of the year.  This year, I don't feel like I'm ready to jump right in like I usually do.  I usually love decorating my house, but now all I can think about is whether or not I have the time to dig out those boxes.

I think hope I am just in a funk.  I am lucky to have what I have, and to have so many amazing people in my life...and that makes this just a bit easier to face.

Sorry this was such a downer....but I already feel much better for getting some of this 'heavy' crap off of my chest.

Now...where's the chocolate?? ;-)

Happy Monday, peeps!
