Christmas 2012: A Big ol' Bust

This Christmas, well, let's just say it won't go down in the books for being the merriest or the brightest for our little man.

It all started Friday....

I picked Ryder up from daycare, and I could tell he wasn't feeling the best.  We figured it was just a cold and it would run its course.  Yeah, not so much.  Ryder had Darren up every hour Friday night going in to Saturday morning coughing and and crying.  Poor little guy. :-(

Darren took Ryder to the doctor Saturday morning, and was told that Ryder had croup .  He was given a steroid med to help with his airways, and we were told it would be better in about three days.

I'd like to say this happened, but, c'mon, this story would not be complete without a little more disaster.

Darren and I got sick as well.  Yep.  All three of us were down for the count.  Perfect...just perfect, right?

Darren was starting to feel better by Christmas day, but Ryder and I were still a couple of coughing, sneezing, snot-filled messes.  It was beyond ridiculous.  I'm surprised I don't permanently smell like Vicks Vaporub.

We had some family over Christmas Eve, and that's when my voice started to go.  I sounded like an 80 year old that has smoked their entire life.  It was the icing on top of the cake for sure.  We were all such a hot mess....I knew Christmas Day wouldn't be much better.

Christmas Day consisted of Ryder crying/coughing, me coughing/blowing my nose, and Darren playing the part of the most healthy one in our family.  Ryder didn't open any of his presents himself, and spent most of the time clinging to me or Darren.

Because of this, I have zero pictures from this Christmas.  In all honesty, my camera was furthest from my mind...and all I wanted to concentrate on was trying to get our little man feeling a bit better.

Darren and I are still off of work today, so we took Ryder back to the doctor to see why he hadn't gotten any better.  Turns out, he now has an ear infection in one ear, an infection that was beginning to form in another ear, and still has a bad cough.  He still gets to take his steroid medicine plus an antibiotic for the infections.  Poor fella. :-(

So, there's our Christmas saga.  Sounds like a hoot, eh?

We still got to spend time with our families, which is really what the holidays are about, so that is a huge plus.  It was nice getting to spend time with everyone. :-)  I am so thankful for all of the wonderful family and friends we have.  They are so incredibly caring and we would be lost without all of them.

I also want to say a huge thanks to everyone that helped us celebrate Christmas.  We were all very much spoiled by the gifts and generosity this year, and we couldn't be more thankful for all of it.  We love you all so much!!! :-)

I hope you all had a great holiday, filled with laughter, fun, and good health, haha. :-)

Here's to hoping New Years is a bit better!

I'm Alive...I Think

Holy cow....seriously did I get so behind in posts?  Oh, I know; life has been crazy and I have been drained of all creativity, which includes blog posting.  I'm here to say that I am, in fact, alive and well...I think.

Since I've been away from the blogging community for close to a week, I feel so out of the loop.  I've caught up on reading all of your lovely posts, for the most part, but I feel like I really don't know what's been going down.

Want to hear something funny?  Of course you do, that's why you're here, right?  Well, here it is....I still have a shit-ton of Christmas shopping to do.  I know, I know, it's my fault, but seriously, Christmas totally snuck up on me.  That's my story.

I've been up since 3am this morning, and I'm acting stranger than normal; can you tell?

This post has turned into a pit of nothingness.

I'll try to post something more worthwhile soon.

Until then, enjoy this lovely Christmas video.

Take it easy, kids. :-)

Sneak Peek Friday

Today I finally took down my photography blog.  I actually exhaled a sigh of relief when I did's one less thing I need to update.

So, instead of keeping photography separate, I am embracing it on this blog.  I have decided to dedicate one or two post slots a week to share sneak peeks, weddling reels, and whatever else photography related I'd like to share.

Today is one of those days. :-) Can I get a hoorah?!

I have approximately 2342 sessions to this is going to be a sneak peek overload!

I have a few more sessions to post, but I'll wait for another day.

Have an amazing weekend, peeps.  I plan on editing, drinking hot chocolate, spending time with my fella's, and eating absolutely nothing healthy.

This n' That Thursday

Recently Roached
Today I am linking up with Jena and Katie for This n' That Thursday.  If you haven't checked out these ladies' blogs, I highly recommend it, just sayin.'

This: This week has been fast and slow at the same time, if that seems possible.  Maybe I'm just becoming crazier, which seems much more realistic.  I have been busy with work and editing and wifey time and mommy time and whatever else.  But, at the same time, the week itself seems to be dragging a bit.  Who knows.

That: Who else is ready to hop on the Christmas train?  I am so ready for Christmas to be here that I can hardly stand it!   I think I'm more or less excited for the opportunity to stuff my face with cookies and pie.  Me and my jiggles can hardly wait! I guess I should finish up that Christmas shopping, huh?  Since we only have 12 days left, and in reality, only about 10 shopping days left, I better get a move on it. I still have a ton to do, but I don't know why I'm surprised by this.  I always say I'll start my shopping earlier every year, but I still end up being that crazy person on the 23rd and 24th, expecting to find the hottest deals still on the shelves, and ends up getting gift cards for everyone.....

That's how I roll.

This: The hubby has been good about putting Eric, our Elf on the Shelf, a different place each day.  So good, in fact, that I don't even notice he's there, and then I about pee myself when I see his creeptastic face staring at me while I'm working on the computer, or peeking around my snowman, or looking down at me while I get my piggies on a snack from the fridge.  Just wait until I hide the elf Darren...

That: I started using a new face moisturizer today.  It smells weird.

Happy Thursday! :-)

Christmas Stuff

I realized I never shared our Christmas card that we sent out this year.  I love it! :-)

This is the front.

And this is the back. :-)

The actual card was cut into a "luxe/ornate" shape, and I love how it turned out. Very purdy.

We were actually on our game this year and got our tree up a few days after Thanksgiving.  I snapped some pics to share with you all.

I love Christmas time.  It makes me feel all fuzzy and fluffy and good and stuff. ;-)

Happy hump day folks. :-)

Weekend Shenanigans: Toddler Style

Once the holiday season arrives, it seems like the weekends fly by faster than normal.
Can someone explain to me why this is fair?
Or why we only have two weekend days and five work days?
Or why it's called peanut butter?

But, anyway, this weekend was a busy one.  I had two photo sessions, which were beyond awesome.  I will be posting sneak peeks soon. --sidenote--I have decided to get rid of the photography blog.  I know, I know, I made such a tizzy about having one in the first place, but let's get real for a sec....I just don't have the time to coordinate posts for two separate blogs.  So, I will dedicate one or two posts a week for photography related crap.  I think it will work out splendidly. :-)

Back to the weekend shenanigans....

Friday Ryder had his two year well-check appointment.  He weighs 32lbs (we think--I'll explain momentarily) which puts him in the 75th percentile, and he is approx. 35 inches tall, which puts him between the 50th-75th percentile.  The doc said we have a smart little guy and he is developing right on track.  We are going to start working on potty training a bit more and a few other things, but, apparently Ryder is too smart for his own good.  Go figure.

The doc visit as a whole was not good.  I mean, the doc and staff were awesome as usual, but, Ryder 'scream-cried' the entire time.  Once the kids turn two, apparently they get to stand on the 'big kid' scale, and not sit on the infant one.  Well, Ryder wouldn't stand on the big scale, nor would he sit on the infant scale.  This was one of the worst fits I've seen him throw....and I'm not sure why he did.  Nothing traumatic has ever happened at that office, so I have no idea what the issue was.  I'm sure not having a nap beforehand didn't help.  BUT, to get his weight, Darren had to weigh himself, and then hold Ryder to get his weight.  Getting his height was a real treat, too.  We had to hold down his head, arms, and legs to get an accurate reading.  It was terrible....and don't get me started on his shots.  Thank goodness we have another 6 months before we have to do that again.  The doc and nurses didn't seem phased at all, and when I apologized to the doc about it, he said it was no problem and it was 'normal', and it gets worse.  Yippie.

Friday night was a big one for our little man.  We decided it was time to convert his crib to the toddler bed.  I wasn't sure how this would go, because with certain things it takes Ryder some time to get used to the changes.  He has done AWESOME with this change!  I was setting up his bed and getting it all ready for him, and then I brought him up so he could look at it.  He walked up and touched his mattress, looked at me and gave me this cute little grin.  He has been sleeping great since we switched it over!  Our little man is just that...a little man...and not a baby anymore. :-(

We also introduced Ryder to our newest 'friend', our Elf on the Shelf Eric (name courtesy of Ryder.)  I'm not sure if Ryder quite understands this concept yet, but Darren told me that Ryder found Eric in his newest spot yesterday morning and started clapping, so I think he knows that the Elf is something special. :-)

Saturday was spent finishing up some shopping for the party, then Saturday night Darren and I had some adult time at his work Christmas party.  I had a headache the next morning, so I'll let you all take a guess as to what I may have been doing at the party....

Sunday was Ryder's party, and I think he had a good time.  That, my friends, is another post entirely.

Happy Monday, yo'.  I hope you all had a jazzy weekend. :-)

He Loves Cake, What Can I Say?

Yesterday I bought a small cake for the three of us to enjoy for R-Dub's actual birthday.  We are having cupcakes on Sunday at his party, but, having a special treat on your actual birthday is completely necessary.  Me and my jiggles were all about it.

Mmmm, hello frosting.

Hello birthday boy! :-)

So, Ryder is strange and doesn't like to touch certain foods.  He got some frosting on his fingers and freaked out.

But then he tasted it and all was right in the world.

The shirt had to go once he had his own piece of cake.  Green frosting + white shirts just don't mesh well together.

Geeze, talk about 'big bites.'

I was laughing my ass off watching him eat this cake.  After one bite he was like "MM MM MMMMMMM."  He cracks me up. :-)

What a little stinker.

End result.  This was seriously good cake. :-)

I think Ryder had a good birthday.  The real fun comes on Sunday for his Star Wars themed birthday bash! :-)  I'm excited to get it all set up, so be on the look-out for pics in a few days.

Happy Friday, peeps.  Take it easy. :-)
